Why we built The Last Detail
Having kids is what actually got us thinking about this.
That's when we realized how much of what actually matters is stuck in one person's head. Which bank the mortgage comes out of. Where the will actually is. Whether the power of attorney covers medical decisions or just money, and whether anyone's confirmed both exist.
For a lot of people, a will feels like heavy lifting. A big step. An expensive endeavor. It's a whole THING, and it's easy to keep putting off.
This isn't that. It's something you can do right now, fairly easily, to be more prepared than you were yesterday. Things are just a little closer to complete, and it's one thing you get to mark DONE when there are already a million other to-dos on your plate.
One of us spent years working as a legal assistant at an estate planning firm, and has seen, in general terms, how much harder this gets for families when the practical details, not just the legal ones, were never written down.
Knowing what to look for didn't make it easy. It just made us aware of everything a will alone doesn't cover.
What a will doesn't tell you
A will tells your family who gets what. It doesn't tell them which vet the dog goes to, how to get into your phone, or which of your accounts are set up to autopay the mortgage.
“That gap between ‘we have a will’ and ‘we could actually find what we need’ is where most families get stuck.”
Not because they didn't plan. Because nobody wrote down the rest.
What this is, and what it isn't
The Last Detail is a guided organizer. Ten sections, one question at a time, tailored to your actual situation so you're never filling out fields that don't apply to you. It saves as you go, and it turns everything into a document your family could open tomorrow, down to the last detail.
It is not a will, a trust, or a substitute for a licensed attorney. We say that plainly, throughout the product, because it's true. This organizer covers the part your family would otherwise be left to figure out on their own.
Built with care, and with research most checklists skip
We didn't want this to feel like a legal form or a funeral pamphlet. It's built to feel like something you'd actually want to sit down with, warm and clear rather than clinical or heavy, because getting your family organized should come from love, not fear.
If you've made it this far, you probably already know why this matters. We're glad you're here.
